Shatta Wale Throws Shade at Former IGP Over Prophet’s Arrest: “He Saw Himself as a Celebrity”

Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has once again stirred the waters of public discourse this time not with a song, but with a swipe at the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Reacting to the swift arrest of Prophet D.Y Donkor — a self-styled man of God who recently prophesied doom about the musician — Shatta Wale took to social media to throw subtle but sharp jabs at the former IGP.

“I’ve never seen an IGP that likes social media like the former IGP,” Shatta Wale said. “He was seeing himself as a celebrity.”

Though his comment may have seemed lighthearted to some, it was clearly laced with frustration and sarcasm. The dancehall kingpin has had a rocky history with prophecies and law enforcement.

Back in 2021, Shatta Wale faked his own shooting incident after a prophecy predicted his death a move that led to his own arrest and detention.

Many believed the police, then under the leadership of Dampare, acted more swiftly to discipline celebrities than to protect them.

But this time around, things are different. Following Prophet D.Y Donkor’s claims that Shatta Wale would “soon die mysteriously,” the Ghana Police Service, now under new leadership, acted swiftly — arresting the prophet and cautioning him against making such public utterances.

To Shatta Wale, this was a moment of quiet vindication and he didn’t miss the chance to draw a contrast between the past and present.

“Now things are moving,” he said in a live video. “Some people were only interested in likes and followers. Policing is not showbiz.”

His remarks have sparked mixed reactions online. Some fans cheered him on for speaking his mind, while others felt his jab at the former IGP was unnecessary.

However, one thing remains clear: Shatta Wale is never afraid to voice his thoughts no matter who is in the spotlight.

Whether or not his criticism of Dr. Dampare was fair is up for debate, but one thing’s for sure: in the world of Ghanaian entertainment, Shatta Wale knows how to keep the conversations going.
