MultiChoice Responds to Minister’s Comments on DStv Pricing in Ghana

Accra, Ghana – August 3, 2025: MultiChoice Ghana has expressed concern over recent public comments made by the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, regarding the pricing of DStv subscription services in Ghana.

In a media statement signed by its Managing Director, Alex Okyere, the company described the Minister’s position as “regrettable,” especially given ongoing efforts by MultiChoice to engage the Ministry and the National Communications Authority (NCA) in good faith. According to the statement, MultiChoice has already presented a proposal to both the Minister and the NCA, aimed at finding an alternative way forward on the issue.

Having operated in Ghana for over 30 years, MultiChoice emphasized its commitment to the country, noting its investment in employees, dealers, agents, and retailers. The company acknowledged the potential negative impact of any unresolved standoff on livelihoods, and assured the public of its readiness to work with government stakeholders to resolve the matter.

MultiChoice further stressed that it consistently strives to keep DStv subscription fees as low as possible, despite operating in a challenging economic environment. The company pointed out that efforts to maintain affordability are always balanced with the need to uphold quality and consumer choice.

Addressing recent calls for a price reduction based on the appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, MultiChoice argued that such a move is “not tenable.” The company clarified that it has never referred to the cedi’s appreciation as a “fluke,” but maintained that the proposed price cut is not sustainable.

“We remain committed to constructive engagement with the Honourable Minister and to complying with all applicable laws and regulations in Ghana,” the statement concluded.

The public awaits the next steps as both parties work toward a resolution in the interest of Ghanaian consumers.
