A Ghanaian woman has taken to social media to recount a disturbing encounter with a ride-hailing driver that allegedly turned violent over a GH₵4 fare dispute.
The incident, which was shared on X, involved a driver from Bolt, formerly known as Taxify.
The woman, identified on the platform with the handle @Caro_lineeeeee, claimed she was assaulted by the driver after a disagreement over the final cost of a ride.
In a series of posts detailing the incident, she wrote:
“A bolt driver just assaulted me.”
“I added a stop when I ordered the ride then he declined the stop but then he still arrived. When I got to him I asked him why he declined and he said oh he’ll send me.When I got to my final stop the app charged 23gh which is just the actual price without the stop I added, So he said oo I should add some so I sent him 26gh momo. Then got down when I got down he also came out and started following me and shouting at me that I don’t respect and I’m a prostitute (I was wearing my official dress cos I just came from work and I was picking my nephew”.
“From school so I ordered the ride from my house to the school and back) hence the stop. Then he pushed me and slapped me that I should add 4gh to make it 30gh because if the stop was calculated in the app it would be more than the 26gh mind you I always order a ride to pick. My nephew and it doesn’t exceed 26gh that’s why I gave him that. He said no no no I should give him the 4gh else he’ll beat me so I removed the money and threw it at him. And run inside my house with my nephew”.
According to her account, the dispute began after she added a stop to the ride request. Although the driver initially declined the stop in the app, he still picked her up and completed the trip.
She explained that the app charged GH₵23, which she said reflected the standard fare without the additional stop. However, the driver allegedly demanded extra payment and insisted she should pay GH₵30, claiming the fare would have been higher if the stop had been properly calculated.
The woman said she sent GH₵26 via mobile money, but the driver allegedly confronted her after the trip ended, verbally abused her, and physically assaulted her while demanding the remaining GH₵4.
The incident has since sparked reactions online, with many social media users calling on Bolt to investigate the matter and ensure the safety of passengers who use the platform.
