The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has been removed from office.
His dismissal comes amid growing scrutiny of the administration of Ghana’s sporting facilities and an ongoing police investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding a visa facilitation arrangement linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The allegations have centred on claims that individuals seeking assistance with travel arrangements for the tournament were charged significant sums of money, with reports indicating that some applicants were allegedly asked to pay as much as US$8,000.
The Minority in Parliament had earlier called for Mr Ampofo Ankrah to be suspended or dismissed while investigations continued, citing allegations that more than US$600,000 was generated through the arrangement.
However, the NSA has denied authorising or operating any visa facilitation or money-collection arrangement connected to the World Cup. The Authority said its legal team was cooperating with the police investigation and described the allegations as false.
The police investigation is ongoing, and the allegations against Mr Ampofo Ankrah and other individuals have not been established as fact.
