Ghana Set to Formally Apply to Join BRICS
Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that Cabinet has approved Ghana’s decision to formally apply to join the BRICS economic bloc.
According to the Minister, the move forms part of the government’s broader efforts to deepen Ghana’s economic partnerships and create new opportunities for trade, investment and development.
Ghana’s potential membership is expected to strengthen the country’s energy and resource security, expand export opportunities and provide greater access to emerging markets.
The decision would pave the way for Ghana to seek closer cooperation with BRICS members, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.
The government believes closer engagement with the bloc could help Ghana diversify its international economic partnerships while positioning the country to benefit from increased trade, investment and cooperation among emerging economies.
