Don’t Underrate NPP’s Capacity to Destroy – Abraham Koomson
TEMA, Ghana, 1st October: The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has cautioned the government against underestimating what he describes as the capacity of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to undermine governments through propaganda and misinformation.
According to Mr Koomson, the NPP has, in his view, historically used propaganda to damage the image of political administrations, citing the government of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and other past governments as examples.
He alleged that the party could go to the extent of mobilising individuals to create confusion and instability as part of efforts to regain political power.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem on Thursday, October 1, Mr Koomson urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to remain focused on its grassroots structures while President John Dramani Mahama pursues his agenda of resetting the country.
He argued that the government must also strengthen and restructure its grassroots structures, which he said could become a target for the opposition NPP.
Mr Koomson further advised the government to work with people it trusts, particularly in sensitive state institutions.
He suggested that the government should consider replacing some officials inherited from the previous administration in certain sectors, particularly the security sector as such individuals could be working to advance the interests of the NPP like the recent cocaine scandal.
“The power is now in the hands of the NDC,” he said, urging the government to use its mandate to counter what he described as attempts to use propaganda to tarnish its image.
Mr Koomson maintained that the NDC must remain vigilant and avoid complacency, stressing that the alleged capacity of the NPP to employ political strategies to undermine its opponents should not be underestimated.
