The government has increased the monthly allowances paid to Paramount Chiefs and Queen Mothers from GH¢1,200 to GH¢3,000.
Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, disclosed the increase during the Government Accountability Series at the Presidency.
According to the Minister, the new allowance has already been paid for six quarters, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening its support for traditional authorities across the country.
The increase forms part of measures being implemented by the government to enhance the welfare and effectiveness of traditional leaders, who play an important role in local governance, peacebuilding and community development.
The government believes improved support for traditional authorities will enable them to better perform their responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to development at the community level.
