A 22-year-old Bolt driver, Emmanuel Kofi Mensah, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison with hard labour for attacking a female passenger and robbing her of valuables.
Mensah was convicted after he attacked the passenger on September 23, 2026, inflicting multiple machete wounds on her before making away with two iPhones valued at GH¢18,000 and GH¢3,500, cash amounting to GH¢3,200, and other personal belongings.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 10:00 p.m. after the complainant booked a Bolt ride to Adenta New Site.
During the journey, Mensah allegedly locked the vehicle’s doors and diverted from the intended route towards Mantey Farms, where he attacked the passenger.
The victim sustained multiple machete wounds during the attack, while Mensah allegedly took her phones, cash and other belongings before leaving the scene.
However, his attempt to dispose of the stolen phones led to his arrest the following day.
At about 1:00 p.m. on September 24, Mensah reportedly took the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 12 to an Apple store to sell them.
The shop owner, upon inspecting one of the phones, reportedly noticed the complainant’s photograph displayed on the home screen. Suspecting that the devices could have been stolen, the owner caused Mensah’s arrest.
Mensah was subsequently prosecuted and sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
